Welcome to the toutle lake jr/sr high school

important 2021-2022 back to school information

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We are closing in on September 1st, and the start of a new and exciting school year!  The staff at Toutle Lake Jr/Sr High School are excited by the opportunities that the new school year brings, and we are ready to welcome everyone to the 2021-22 school year! As a team (students, families, and staff), we will work together to create a safe, and welcoming environment that encourages everyone to work to improve each day.

I feel very fortunate to be the new principal of Toutle Lake Jr/Sr High School! I have spent the last 34 years working in schools around southwest Washington. During this time I spent my first 2 years as a substitute teacher and coach, then 26 years as a classroom teacher and coach, and the last 6 years as a building administrator. My goal has been to become a building principal, and when I saw the opening here at Toutle Lake, I seized the opportunity to apply. I look forward to working with students, staff, parents and guardians, as well as the community to support the personal growth and academic success of all students, with the end goal of each student graduating on time and being ready to pursue their goals and dreams after high school.

Here is some important information for you as you and your student(s) prepare for the upcoming school year.

General Information:

  • The first day of school is Wednesday, September 1st. It will also be a 2:00 release.

  • Regular, daily attendance is a critical component of student success. I look forward to supporting the successful attendance for all students.

  • We will hold a 7th grade/New Student Orientation on Tuesday, August 31st from 6:00-7:00 pm. More information will go out to all 7th grade and New Student families on Friday the 27th.

  • School hours are 8:30-3:00. Every Wednesday will be a 2:00 release.

  • Masks will be required for all students, staff, and visitors while inside school buildings. We prefer that students bring their own mask, but we will provide masks for those who do not have one.

  • Health Attestations will be completed quarterly. Please complete the attestation form found on the school district’s website under the “For Parents” tab by the first day of school. We will no longer do daily health screenings.

  • Breakfast and lunch are free.

  • Please have your student bring a refillable water bottle each day; we cannot use our water fountains this year.

  • If you are unsure about bus transportation, please contact Daryl Spinneberg at dspinneberg@toutlesd.org or call 360-967-1135.

  • Student Parking - like last year, students who drive to school are to park in the spaces on the south side of the high school gym. If all 20 of these spaces are filled, please park in the spaces that are provided on the rock area inside the stadium gate to the left of the stands.

I am energized by the opportunity to work with students, staff, families, and the community to support the learning, development, and achievement of the students of Toutle Lake.

Go Ducks!

Kurt Gray,

Secondary Principal

Healthy Youth Survey

It is time for the Healthy Youth Survey, this will take place in 1st period of one day between October 12th and the 19th.

The Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Department of Health, the Health Care Authority - Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery, and the Liquor and Cannabis Board. The Healthy Youth Survey provides important survey results about the health of adolescents in Washington. County prevention coordinators, community mobilization coalitions, community public health and safety networks, and others use this information to guide policy and programs that serve youth. The Survey is confidential and no names are used. If you would like to have your child opt-out from taking the survey, please see Mrs. Cooper in the elementary office or Mrs. Marcil in the High School office.

If you have any questions about the Survey, please contact Leann Couch @ 360 274 6182 Extension 5350.
